Season finale and farewell

At the end of the season, the Düsseldorf Senators welcomed the Wassenberg Squirrels to their home ground. Play Ball was called at around 3pm in late summer temperatures of around 24°C.
Starting pitcher Kevin was back on the mound after an injury break and allowed 7 runs from the hard-hitting visitors in the first 2 1/3 innings. The defense struggled to get the balls under control and several outs were given away due to pop-ups. Reliever Till put the Squirrels under pressure and only allowed 3 runs in the next 4 2/3 innings.
Unfortunately, the Senators missed the connection and did not really get into the game at bat. The Wassenbergers’ error-free plays were not really affected by the total of 11 hits and they held their nerve until the end.
Perhaps the will to win was too much of a burden on the team’s shoulders, as the final score of 10:8 was unfortunately not the result the Düsseldorf team around Head Coach Max Lauffer, who coached his last game for the Senators, had hoped for. Under great applause from the numerous spectators, Max made his way to the dugout for the last time.
The team and the entire club would like to thank him for his many years of loyal service and support on and off the field.
The team will now head into winter training in order to attack stronger in the coming season.

Successful continuation

On Saturday, the Neunkirchen Nightmares 2 were the guests to continue the game that had been interrupted due to rain. The visitors were leading 8:4 before the interruption and were still batting with 2 Outs in the 3rd inning.
Right at the start, as well as throughout the game, Mato put in a commanding performance on the mound. Our Senators were focused and went on the offensive very well. By the end of the 3rd inning, the scoreboard showed 8:8 and then our second team really turned up the heat. The debutants Jack and Jojo as well as the whole team presented themselves very strongly, especially At Bat. The Senators only conceded 1 run in defense and in the fifth inning, with the score at 19:9, the mercy rule meant “ball game”.

Defeat against the Squirrels in Wassenberg

The thermometer showed 33 degrees Celsius when “play ball” was called in Wassenberg today. The Squirrels started highly motivated and the pitcher in particular performed very well in the first three innings. Our Senators were severely decimated and also suffering from colds and injuries. As a result, our second men didn’t get into the game in the first innings and the score was 6:0 for Wassenberg.

In the fourth inning, our boys woke up and the score was only 8:6. A head-to-head game developed in hot temperatures, in which the Squirrels were ahead in the end.

After the seventh inning, the scoreboard showed 17:10 for Wassenberg.

With minimum line-up to victory

The Bonn Capitals were the guests in Benrath today. The thermometer showed a sunny 32 degrees Celsius and our second team got off to a good start, leading 3:2 after the first inning.

Head coach Max’s team only had 9 players, so everyone had to play through, which was very exhausting in the weather.

However, Bonn kept up well until our Senators turned up the heat in the fourth inning and conjured up 9 runs on the scoreboard to extend their lead to 18:8. Showtime, who celebrated his birthday on the field with 4 hits and 2 runs, was also involved.

As in Neunkirchen, the second team played at its best with nine players in enormous heat and only allowed the Capitals to get within 3 runs. It was another great team performance, with Michael K. and Till on the mound and Min with 2 flyouts in leftfield. The reward was a well-deserved 18:15 victory after more than 3 hours of play.

In a good mood

Yesterday, Sunday, the Senators hosted the Aachen Greyhounds 2. The sun was shining and our second team was in good form. But the guests were also in a good mood and highly motivated.

Head coach Max’s team impressed in the very first inning with a very good batting performance and took a 5:0 lead. This lead was extended in the next two innings.

With a strong defense and solid at-bats in the following innings, the Senators were able to further extend their lead. The Greyhounds did their best and remained focused and in good spirits despite the many runs.

In the end, the scoreboard showed 18:5 – ball game in the fourth inning. We are looking forward to the next meeting with this young but very committed team.

Both Michaels performed particularly well on the Düsseldorf side in this game: one on the mound and the other with 4 base hits!

Close 13:15 in the top match against Cologne

The Düsseldorf Senators’ 2nd men’s team suffered a narrow defeat in the eagerly awaited top game of the district league. With a final score of 13:15, the team led by head coach Max lost against the strong team from Cologne, who ultimately prevailed in a thrilling game. Despite the defeat, the Senators put in a fighting performance and remain an opponent to be taken seriously in the league.

An exciting game

The game got off to an extremely even start. Both teams gave each other nothing and fought a hard-fought match right from the start. The Senators did not get off to a strong start and were only able to score one run in the first innings. However, Cologne also showed its class and responded promptly, resulting in an exciting exchange of blows.

Offensive power on both sides

The offense of both teams was in top form on this day. The Düsseldorf batsmen once again showed their skills and put numerous runs on the scoreboard. The strong performances of the Senators’ top hitters Kevin, Daichi, NO and Sho, who repeatedly posed a threat with precise hits and clever base steals, deserve special mention.

Although the Senators were convincing in offense, they struggled defensively against Cologne, who were also powerful. Overall, the Düsseldorfers put in a great team performance, with Kevin, Daichi and Mato on the mound, Gregor, Min and Daniel in the outfield and Chris, Michael and Holger in the infield performing to their usual high standards.

3 wins in a single day

The winning streak of the Düsseldorf Senators’ 2nd men’s team continues. With a convincing 17:5 victory in the second leg against the Zülpich Eagles, the Senators were able to celebrate their sixth win in a row in the district league. The team put in another impressive performance and underlined their ambitions for the current season.

The game began like the previous meeting between the two teams: The Senators took an immediate 3 run lead. They were already able to take the lead in the first inning thanks to strong at-bats and consistent baserunning. Even though Zülpich equalized in the 2nd and 3rd inning, the Düsseldorfers managed to put them under further pressure.
The Senators’ offense was also the key to success in this game. The experienced batsmen and the talented youngsters stood out in particular with their precise and powerful hits.

The win was well deserved and the result of hard work in training,” said Head Coach Max. With the previously won game of the U15 and the away victory of the softball ladies, the Senators were able to win 3 games in one day.

The Düsseldorf Senators’ 2nd men’s team is continuing its impressive winning streak. Last weekend, they achieved another convincing success in the district league. With a clear 26:12 triumph at the Zülpich Eagles 2, the Düsseldorfers celebrated their fifth win in a row and consolidated their position in the league.
