NRW ON THE PODIUM

The newly formed 13U NRW softball team led by coaches Claudia Volkmann and Katharina Szalay took part in a 13U softball tournament for the first time last weekend. The U13 Softball Germany Cup, held at the Cologne Cardinals, also marked the first games for this young team. The teams from Kiel and Stuttgart were clearly beaten in the preliminary round and so they moved into the semi-finals on Sunday highly motivated, where the selection from Baden-Württemberg was waiting.

The tension was clearly noticeable because the final was within reach. However, the selection from BW came into the game better and was able to pull ahead with 5 runs in the first inning. But the initial nervousness faded from inning to inning and the lead melted away, so that NRW actually still had a chance to win. Unfortunately, the hard-hit line drive landed directly in the glove of the short stop and the dream of reaching the final was dashed.

In the game for third place it was against the selection from Kiel/Berlin and it was shown right from the start that the previous defeat had been forgotten. At no point was the subsequent victory in danger and so the young girls from North Rhine-Westphalia immediately secured a place on the podium in their first tournament appaerence.

Our Olivia was there, who contributed her part to the success of the NRW team with great hits and strong defensive work. We would like to warmly congratulate the entire team.

We saw a team and project with a signal effect and wish the coaches Claudia and Katharina all the best for the future. Keep it up!

The winners of the Deutschland Cup were the Freising Grizzles. We also warmly congratulate them.

Senators at the ISR Open House

“A piece of home in Düsseldorf”. The Düsseldorf Senators presented themselves at the Open House of the International School on the Rhine (ISR) in Neuss last Saturday. The baseball and softball department had contacted the sports director of the school a couple of weeks prior to draw his attention to the program.

“It would be a missed opportunity, not to try it.” That was the unanimous opinion.

“And apparently we found the right words.”

It’s all about the families and especially the kids, for whom we want to offer a piece of home in Düsseldorf with our familiar  activities. Because hardly anything else connects more than sports and creating an atmosphere in which everyone feels comfortable, is all we want.

Baseball and softball are still no overly popular activities in Germany. Not so in the US or other parts of the world. So the idea of ​contacting the ISR was quickly brought up.

“However, we did not expect an invitation to the ‘Open House’.”

Information material was quickly designed and put on paper  in order to be able to enliven the information stand accordingly. Numerous visitors found their way to the senators’ booth, which more than justified the effort involved.

“We were able to connect with various people and collaborators, which presents us with a promising future as a club. A long-term cooperation with the ISR and other organizations is therefore not out of the question,” says Frank Mohr, who was allowed to present the Düsseldorf Senators in Neuss.

We would like to thank everyone involved who made this event possible. We were welcomed with open arms and immediately felt part of a large community. We really appreciate that.
