Trip to Paderborn

With only nine players to work with, Coach Jan Effenberger set a lineup, that was going to give it all. Even against a strong Paderborn team, the guests kept on fighting until the end. After catching up nearly a few times the undermanned Düsseldorf team returned home, winless but full of fight.

Respectable performance by Düsseldorf despite lack of Pitchers

A strong sixth inning and a watertight defense are unfortunately not enough for a win against a well-positioned Paderborn team in the first game. Strong hitting and base running  Paderborn scored eight runs throughout the game, despite good performances by all Düsseldorf pitchers and thus more than the four runs scored by Düsseldorf in the sixth inning. The race to catch up was initiated in the sixth by Jan Effenberger, who hit a double against the solid Paderborn pitcher. Outside of the sixth inning, however, Düsseldorf’s offensive was not convincing and no further runs were scored.

The offensive performance of Düsseldorf left a lot to be desired in the entire second game and no runs could be scored. Paderborn, on the other hand, showed a good offensive performance, even though the missing pitchers from Düsseldorf were compensated for quite solidly. After the fifth inning, Paderborn was able to end the game early. The Düsseldorfers were not guilty of any errors, but did not have any hits to show for either and had to admit defeat with twelve to zero.

With a comparable defensive performance and an improved offensive performance, our Düsseldorfers are hoping for more success in the next games against Bonn and are confident, like last time, of continuing to improve the team performance.

Good game against the division leader.

In the best baseball weather, the Düsseldorf Senators met the Paderborn Untouchables on home turf. However, the guests should not have an easy game. Starting pitcher Mato only allowed 7 runs in the first 4 innings, which the Senators followed up. As the relief pitcher, Daniel came on the mound for the next 3 innings. The Düsseldorf defense couldn’t do much against the 8 runs, caused by many hits by Paderborn. Also in the 8th inning, which Nils-Ole started with his first pitcher pitch, 5 runs came in against the Senators. They themselves could only score 2 more runs, which unfortunately weren’t enough to get into the 9th inning. With a final score of 20:9, the two teams said goodbye to each other. We’re excited to see what the second game will bring.

Good performance in Paderborn

Confidently backed by their first win in the last game, but also with respect towards the Baseball Academy of Paderborn the Team headed north to face the Untouchables.

Already in the first Inning the Senators were able to to take a 1:0 lead, which resulted in a heap of confidence and a more aggressive game plan, to build upon the early success.

The two teams, both at the plate and on the mound, were evenly matched so that the Hosts were able to tie the game at 1 only three Innings later.

Tension reached its climax in the 7th Inning when, with two runners in scoring position and two outs, the Untouchables had to change their pitcher, in order to prevent the Senators from taking the lead. In which, unfortunately for the team from Düsseldorf, he succeeded.

As the hosts offense started rolling on in the 8th there was little to do for the young team, but to watch 8 runs come across home plate. They were however able to tack on two more runs, to show their ever-improving offense wasn’t going to take a halt against strong Paderborn pitching.

Finn Jakoby also proved once again what a reliable constant he has become while only giving up a single run in his start.

Off of a strong first game the team was highly motivated to start the next 7 Innings of the Day. Paderborn, however, seemed to have used the break to switch up their offensive strategy and started laying down bunt after bunt. Unable to defend against them and more hard hit balls the Untouchables built as sizable lead, to which the Düsseldorf bats didn’t seem to find an answer. Not a single run could be scored in game two. Maybe the arising heat was partly to blame as the team seemed out of Energy with quite a few of their core players missing.

But at the end of the day the team headed home with a strong showing against a highly completive team, which excites to see what future games will bring.

Paderborn unfortunately not worth a trip.

“David versus Goliath” was the motto of the Düsseldorf Senators’ junior game on Saturday in Paderborn. With an uncomfortable 13 ° degrees, cloudy skies and a lack of catering, the Senators never had the chance to slip into the role of David. The Paderborn coach probably had concerns about the game after the very good game between Düsseldorf and Bonn last weekend and put by far his best team on the field. In the infield, among other things, only national players who had already played in European and world championships were included. In this respect, the Senators were under pressure and without a chance from the first to the last pitch of the game. The hosts, who were superior in all respects, from the physical to the tactical aspects, also had a clear advantage in terms of age average; While the Senators competed with the two youth players Luis Fenk and Malte Bessem, who did their jobs with brilliantly, the Paderborn lineup mostly icluded 18-year-old players. The clear 2-0 defeat should be quickly forgotten and the team should concentrate on the next and last game of the season against Dortmund.

Two clear losses in Paderborn against the Untouchables

The Senators returned from Paderborn with two clear defeats, which were not unexpected but still painful. The Senators could do little in Paderborn and have brought some homework with them. The defense was overwhelmed in some situations and could hardly counter the opponent’s aggressive base running. There still is a lack of consistency in the team at the plate. The bottom line is a 13: 3 and a 10: 0 defeat.

In the first game of the double header, our pitcher, Anton DeAngelis, was able to keep the Paderborn players within striking distance until the 5th inning after a bumpy start, but only delayed the inevitable outcome. With a total of 5 errors in the field game, the support on the defensive side of the ball was also very weak. Can Frieters (3 of 3), Robin Thorenz (2 of 3) and Steffen Meller (1 base hit) stood out positively in the offensive. With 6 base hits, the Düsseldorfers were able to stand up to the Paderborn team (10 hits). The mistakes in the field and the inconsistency at the plate are ultimately responsible for the outcome.

The second game was mainly characterized by walks and hit by pitches. Neither team was conspicuous on the offensive. The Senators scored two hits (DeAngelis 1B, Thorenz 2B) and the Untocuhables four. Javier Liere-Paz but also the opposing starting pitcher did not have their best day and gave up some walks and hit-by-pitches. 8 walks, 4 hit batters and 6 stolen bases caused a lot of traffic on the bases and, in combination with the 4 hits of the Paderborn team, resulted in 10 runs. The Senators were able to achieve 6 walks, but did not manage to achieve anything significant. The Senators couldn’t get a run over home plate with Bases Loaded and no outs and therefore couldn’t prevent the shut-out.

The Senators take a lot of thoughts and homework with them from Paderborn. We would like to thank the Untouchables, the Umpires, the scorer and the fans who traveled with us for the friendly atmosphere!
