Female Empowerment On and Off the Field: Why Softball Is More Than Just a Game
Today is International Women’s Day – a moment to pause and celebrate the strength, courage, and achievements of women around the world. For me, this energy finds a very special expression in my sport: softball.
I am incredibly proud to play a sport that is so deeply rooted in female athleticism. Softball is about so much more than home runs or strikeouts. It is a space where we as women push each other, grow beyond ourselves, and embrace our strengths without compromise.
It’s time to redefine what “like a girl” really means.
We must not allow phrases like “you throw like a girl” to be used as an insult. These stereotypes no longer have a place in our language.
When I stand on the field today, I see what “like a girl” truly means:
- Precision & focus: It’s not about stereotypes, it’s about pure technique. In a world that often tells women to be “careful,” softball shows us how to hit the ball as hard as possible and give everything—physically and mentally.
- True solidarity: Every inning teaches us that together we are unstoppable. When one player stumbles, the team lifts her up. This kind of support builds resilience that reaches far beyond the field.
- Empowerment at eye level: On the field, passion and respect are what count. We lift each other up instead of comparing ourselves—setting an example for society as a whole.
To all women out there—whether on the field, in the office, or in everyday life: let’s continue to create spaces where we can fully embrace our strength and support one another.
Happy International Women’s Day!
