Senators secure DH sweep in Jülich

The Düsseldorf Senators softball team traveled to Jülich with a nearly full roster, looking to build on their strong season opener in Cologne. With two wins already under their belt and unfinished business from last season, motivation was high.

Last year, the Senators had suffered two clear losses at Barmener See. This time, the team approached the matchup with full focus.

“Jülich is a tough opponent to read, with strong pitching and a powerful offense,” the head coach said before the game, while still embracing the team’s momentum.
“We came here with the clear goal of winning both games. At the same time, we know that it will take our best softball and full concentration until the final out.”

The first game turned into a closely contested battle. Both teams traded blows, and after three innings, the score was tied at 5–5.

“It took us a bit of time to adjust to their starting pitcher,” was the assessment after the game.

In the fourth inning, the breakthrough came. The Senators scored six runs to pull away and lay the foundation for an 11–7 victory.

In the second game, the Senators carried their momentum forward. While Jülich once again relied on the same starting pitcher, Düsseldorf was able to rotate more freely.

The Senators’ two pitchers delivered an impressive performance, allowing just three hits and no earned runs over the entire game. That set the tone early for a convincing 12–3 win.

Offensively, the team was in top form throughout the day. A total of 23 hits, including seven extra-base hits, created a clear advantage.

“The consistency in the circle and at the plate is no coincidence,” the head coach emphasized.
“The players have worked hard over the past months and are now seeing the results of that effort.”

The discipline in pitching further highlights the team’s development, with only three walks issued across both games.

“Our next game is still two weeks away, but we will start preparing for the next opponent on Monday,” the head coach added, looking ahead.
“On May 10, we face the Krefeld Crows. Another road game, but this time we travel with four wins in our pocket.”

Special thanks go to the Jülich Duchess, who, as always, created an atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect. Moments like these show what softball is about beyond the competition.
