Last Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Düsseldorf Senators’ softball women were honored in a very special way: they became the first softball team to participate in the NRW State Sports Association Gala for the NRW Prize *Girls and Women in Sports: Dedicated, Courageous – Outstanding!* This year marked the 13th edition of the award.
Held at the Varieté et cetera in Bochum, the event celebrated the diverse achievements and activities of girls and women across various areas of sports. Being nominated in the “Social Commitment” category came as a complete surprise to everyone involved.
“We are incredibly proud to have been invited to this year’s award ceremony and to be nominated in a category so close to our hearts,” said the Head Coach of the Düsseldorf Senators.
Social commitment is a true passion for the softball team. Beyond their athletic pursuits, they dedicate themselves to social projects and support organizations such as ProMädchen, the Kindertafel, and most recently, the Trebe Café in Düsseldorf with generous donations.
“We must never forget that as a team and as a club, we have a voice. Not everyone has the privilege of playing team sports. We want to make a statement not only on the field but also off it—for an equal society where girls and women don’t play a supporting role.”
Even though they didn’t win the grant prize, there was no trace of disappointment.
“This wasn’t about winning or losing,” explained Frank Mohr. “When it comes to social commitment—in any form—there is only one winner: the people it’s all about. And that’s what truly matters.”
