Bounce Back Ladies

Last weekend, the ladies of the Düsseldorf Senators faced the Aachen Greyhounds and showed a significant improvement compared to the previous week.

Both offensively and defensively, the performance curve is clearly trending upward.

“We knew that the girls would bounce back after the defeat against Krefeld,” said Frank Mohr. “The fact that they would do it so impressively was somewhat surprising, even for us, but it shows how solid this team is and how they manage to hit the reset button week after week.”

Right from the start, it was clear that the Senators were determined to minimize their error rate compared to last week. The defense was focused from the beginning and maintained this level throughout the entire game.

“We played against a spirited opponent who didn’t give us a moment to breathe. Aachen is a softball wild card. The Greyhounds seem to have around forty players on their roster, and you never really know who you’ll be up against,” the coach explains, referring to the numerous players that can regularly be recruited from the university.

Even though the Senators were the favorites going into the game against the Greyhounds—a term the coaches don’t like to hear, but have to accept in this case—the outcome of the game remained uncertain for a long time.

“Personally, I never like to assume clear roles because I believe that every game has to be played first. Every opponent, no matter who we play against, is taken seriously. We show them respect and always try to give our best.”

A day when everything fell into place. That’s how it could be summed up in the end, as the offense also found the gaps with numerous hard hits, filling the bases time and again. In the fifth inning, only an intentional base on balls could delay the early end of the game for the Aachen Greyhounds, but it couldn’t prevent it.

Because just one inning later, our shortstop hit a walk-off to secure the decisive 14-4 final score.

The pitchers also impressed once again, building confidence for the upcoming games.

“Our fans saw two strong Düsseldorf pitchers today who never faltered, and the really good thing is that our other three didn’t even have to step in. If we can manage to perform more often in this formation in the future, we can certainly start thinking about higher goals. But there’s still a long way to go until then.”

Next Saturday, the opponent is Krefeld Crows and one thing is already clear. The team will look completely different than when they lost just over a week ago. So let’s be excited.
