A long road to victory
On September 19, 2021, the 2nd men’s team from Düsseldorf and the Hochdahl Neandertaler met in an exciting game at Senators Field.
With a strong performance by our 18U pitcher Niklas Kolter and good offense with aggressive base running, the Senators were able to take a clear lead in the first innings. But not for long.
Nils Seppelt, who was later called to the mound from the outfield for the Senators, did not really find his groove, which is why the Hochdahlers were able to score several runs and thus take the lead. Daniel Czelinski, who was substituted into the outfield in the same inning, replaced Nils on the mound and was able to finish the inning after a few pitches.
But even after this inning, the Senators were not intimidated and countered again with many good hits and stolen bases. Including a triple by Lukas Kirchhoff, who scored seamlessly thanks to a fielding error, and 3 singles, a double and a triple by Leon Stölzel.
The guests, who were still in the lead, had problems against Mato Charlier, who was subbed in by the Senators as a pitcher. Nevertheless, more runs crossed home plate every now and then, which made it difficult for the Senators to bring the victory home.
After 7 very well pitched innings, the Hochdahl pitcher also left the mound, which gave the Senators hope again to win the game.
It was only in the 9th inning after almost 3 1/2 hours of play that the Düsseldorf team managed to walk it off and score the winning run.
After this beautiful day, we would like to thank the guests from Hochdahl for this exciting and fun game and look forward to a new meeting next year.
