Senators 2 fight their way back — In the End, they fall short by just one Run
The Düsseldorf Senators 2 suffered a narrow 7–8 loss to the Neunkirchen Nightmares 3 on Sunday. In a game that was evenly matched for long stretches, the Senators initially fell significantly behind but then mounted a strong comeback, keeping the game exciting right up to the last out.
The hosts got off to a better start and took a 4–1 lead as early as the first inning. In the second inning, the Nightmares added four more runs. After two innings, the score stood at 8–2 in favor of the hosts.
After that, the Senators gradually found their rhythm. Both teams went scoreless for a while, until Düsseldorf added another run to the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Things got really exciting in the sixth inning: With three runs in one go, the Senators cut the deficit to 6–8.
This put the game wide open again.
In the seventh and final inning, Düsseldorf finally managed to score another run. With the score at 7–8, the comeback was nearly complete—but it wasn’t quite enough to tie the game and force extra innings. The Nightmares were able to hold on to their narrow lead until the final out.
Despite the loss, the Senators can take a lot of positives away from the game. After a difficult start, the team showed grit and fought their way back into the game step by step. The three runs in the sixth inning, in particular, really heated up the game once again.
In the end, they were just one run short of turning a 2–8 deficit into a tie.
Final score:
Neunkirchen Nightmares 3 – Düsseldorf Senators 2: 8–7
