Sometimes you lose…
On the second day of the 2nd Bundesliga season, the Düsseldorf Senators hosted the team from Neunkirchen—and experienced an intense home opener featuring two instructive games.
The first game started out as a closely contested matchup. Both pitchers dominated the action; the game was fast-paced, clean, and of high quality. It wasn’t until the third inning that the decisive moment arrived: Following a defensive error that could have ended the inning, the visitors capitalized on their opportunity. Immediately afterward, a three-run home run gave them a 4-0 lead. The Senators found their rhythm again after that but were unable to close the gap significantly. The final score was 8-1, even though the game was much closer for a long time than the result suggests.

…sometimes the others win
The second game followed a similar pattern. Nori Ogata made his first start of the season on the mound; he gave up a few runs in the first inning but then found his rhythm and kept the visitors’ offense in check. Offensively, the Senators continued to struggle to get on base consistently and build momentum. It wasn’t until the final inning that they managed to score a few runs, making the final score a bit more respectable. Overall, however, they lacked punch for long stretches, so this game also went to Neunkirchen with a score of 3-9.
The quality of the opponent was striking: Neunkirchen played very consistently throughout both games and capitalized on their opportunities.
Despite the two losses, it was an important step for the Senators. The team fielded a nearly full roster and was able to play together in this lineup for the first time—a factor that will be crucial in the coming weeks.
A special highlight was the first full-scale livestream of a home game day. Following sporadic tests in preseason games and, among other places, in France, the concept was now fully implemented for the first time—with multiple cameras, a commentator, and continuous coverage of both games. The response was all the more gratifying: Around 30 viewers watched the action simultaneously at times, with a total of over 350 views recorded. For the club, this is an important step toward greater visibility and a strong foundation for the upcoming matchdays.
On the field, the main priority now is to become more consistent in attack and continue to adapt to the level of the 2. Bundesliga. The foundation is there—now it’s a matter of executing it on the field for the entire duration of the game.
