game at eye level
Against the league leader, with only three losses up to this point, a win was not set as a goal when the Wesseling Vermins came into town. Rather, it was about proving yourself and increasing your own potential. But even though the guests took the lead with three runs in the first two innings, it quickly became clear that there was more to be gained on this day than expected. The Senators tied the game in the 3rd inning and continued to impress at the plate. It was still a very tight game at eye level, with the hosts even taking the lead for a short time. Even in the 9th innings, no winner could be determined and so it went into a tense 10th inning, in which the Vermins took the lead by one run and thus increased the pressure on the Düsseldorf team. Unfortunately, they couldn’t reward themselves for their good performance and lost the game 6:5 after almost three and a half hours.
The mood was crumpled as everyone knew the first game could have been a win. So the players from Düsseldorf went into their second game and the pressure they could build up in the first game was no longer upheld. However, Wesseling continued to impress with their consistent performance and thus confirmed their lead in the standings. The second game ended with a score of 18:4.
